It’s old news by now about Steve Harvey’s slip up on his announcement of the 2015 Miss Universe, accidentally crowning Miss Columbia instead of Miss Philippines. In all the chaos surrounding Harvey’s actions after the crowning, it was easy to overlook the model who walked away with the coveted award. Although, with the way Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, worked the stage, it was hard for us not to want to learn more about the inspiree.
Here are 6 things to know about the 2015 Miss Universe:
1. Pia has only been doing pageants for 5 years
It’s hard to believe that after her performance on stage, Pia had actually only started competing in pageants in 2013!
2. She’s a writer.

3. Wurtzbach is one of the three oldest Miss Universe title holders
The latest pageant rules says that candidates should be between the ages of 18-26 and Pia hits right at the maximum age limit.
4. Pia started off her acting career at the age of 11
Pia is definitely not new to fame, especially after joining modeling and acting agency, Star Magic Talent, at such a young age. According to EN Starz, she appeared on children’s shows and films before she got her big break in afternoon TV show “K2BU.”
5. She’s a trained chef
Pia received her culinary degree at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines.
6. Pia is part German.
Although she represented the Philippines in the 2015 pageant, she’s half German. She was actually also born in Stuttgart.
