I was binge watching videos from a new favorite channel on YouTube, EatYourKimchi, and I came across a video called “The Best Nail Shop in Korea.”
This caught my eye because, let’s face it ladies, we’ve all had our share of salon horror stories. I’ve lost count on how many different salons I’ve visited! I try and get my nails done at least once a month and even then, I usually go for a simple, solid color or french gel manicure. Why am I not more adventurous with designs? While I would love to have more intricate nails, just like Martina from EatYourKimchi, I’ve had too many horrible nail jobs to risk complicated designs.
For instance, I once asked for a simple feather design on my ring fingers and, no matter how many attempts (and I watched her put such honest effort), the manicurist just simply couldn’t draw a feather. I felt bad and I appreciated her effort, so I settled for what she drew, which ended up looking like a glittery rake. See the comparison below:
Nail’d it? Not quite. Needless to say, I’m still on the hunt for a nearby nail salon that I can trust with creative designs and nails that will last for weeks. Is it worth going to South Korea to get my ideal manicure? Perhaps one day.
In the meantime, Martina shows us her process of getting a decorative gel manicure and why she praises her go-to-salon, Sunkuku Nail Art Studio and its nail artist, Sunny. With Sunny’s clear artistic talent, her steady hand swiftly paints precise details and places minuscule studs to create a picture perfect design. It seems like she really takes her time with her clients to make sure your nails last as long as they should. In fact, Sunny is so dedicated that one session may take up an entire afternoon! Watch Martina’s five (yes, five) hour process below, along with some of Sunny’s notable works of art:
What are your nail salon horror stories? Would you go to South Korea and give Sunny’s nail salon a try?
