South Korea is no stranger to the fan fervor that comes with the World Cup, but recent studies showing a spike in adult diaper and condom sales have caught international attention.
According to information from Homeplus, provided to the JoongAng Daily, adult diaper sales are up 168 percent, thanks to the fans who are willing to forgo bathroom breaks and cheer in huge rallies outdoors. Convenience stores also reported a huge increase in condom sales after Korea’s victory over Greece. GS25, the convenience store subsidiary of the GS Group, told the Korea Times that they sold 5,000 condoms on that day alone, five times more than during Korea’s last appearance in the World Cup four years ago.
Clearly, when South Korea wins, everybody scores.
