S. Korean Ship Sinks

A South Korean vessel carrying 42 people sank off the coast of Antarctica on Monday; five people have been reported as dead and 17 are still missing.

According to the South Korean foreign ministry and coast guard, twenty people were rescued shortly after the No.1 In Sung vessel went down, and rescue ships from both South Korea and New Zealand are still searching for the 17 missing victims. Unfortunately, experts are assuming the worst, due to the water’s freezing temperature.

According to South Korean officials, the boat had  eight South Koreans, eight Chinese, 11 Indonesians, 11 Vietnamese, three Filipinos and one Russian, and the dead included two Indonesians, two South Korean and one Vietnamese.

As of reporting, the cause of the sinking was not yet known.
