On Wednesday, 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, by a lone gunman.
Nineteen-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student of the school who was taken into custody by police and charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder, was armed with an AR-15 assault-style rifle when he opened fire inside and outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
The mass shooting was one of the deadliest in modern U.S. history, and, according to Time, the 18th school shooting of 2018.
#GunReformNow was trending on Twitter Thursday morning. Asian American Pacific Islander celebrities joined in the conversation:
My heart is breaking. All of my thoughts and prayers and love go to all affected in #Parkland.

This 17 year-old was “not really shocked” someone shot up his high school. So… is it done? Did we make America great again yet? https://t.co/ezAbnxHvnB

Here’s what going to happen by our Republican government after today.
Nothing.

Same. Heartbreaking and infuriating. Too much “thoughts and prayers” bullshit.

Sending love to the families and friends of the 17 who lost their lives in Florida. So much suffering for no reason.

Not political just a fact: 87% of children killed by guns are killed here. Think of it: across the world, 87% of the children killed by guns are killed here, in our country. #Fact

Discussing #guncontrol after a mass shooting is as political as discussing water during a fire. #ExceptElectricalFires
