Crystal Kim, the dying cancer patient who was denied access on a plane this past Mother’s Day, is finally getting to Korea.
Though Kim presented a clearance from doctors, Korean Air, under international rules, refused to allow Kim on board, based on the fear that Kim, who has stage four breast cancer, could die on board and traumatize other passengers. But travel agent and industry expert Steve Danishek told the Washington News that the situation was just “plain wrong.”
“Situations like this come up all the time for all airlines all over the world. Flying a sick person is not something unusual. It happens all the time,” said Danishek.
Mimi told the Seattle Times that her mother wants to receive extra medical treatment and see her family and friends in Korea before she passes. The story made international news, with Korean blogs demanding that Kim get to come home.
And she will. Though Korean Air is maintaining its stance, Delta Airlines is flying out the Kims to Korea on Thursday afternoon – first class.
