Americans Try An Asian Beauty App

There is a long-standing belief that Asian culture has become more and more obsessed with attractiveness and looks. While we can neither confirm nor deny this, many are pointing to the rising amount of cosmetic surgery in Asia as proof of a culture focused on looks. And let’s not forget all the whitening creams and eye enlargement tricks.

But what’s a girl to do when she doesn’t want the risks of surgery and also can’t deal with the overwhelming pressure to be beautiful? Well it seems some are turning to technology. In 2013 for instance, Chinese news and gossip sites left readers in disbelief when a woman went viral for posting her before and after photoshop pictures. But if photoshop is not your cup of tea, there’s still one more thing to turn to– beauty apps. Over the past couple of years, there has been a rise in Asian beauty mobile apps which can smoothen and lighten your skin, slim your face and even make you look taller.

We certainly have American beauty apps, but the options are tailored to American beauty standards. That’s probably why the girls in this video — American girls who try out an Asian beauty app called Beauty Plus — are rather shocked to see their results.

The participants end up asking where the tanning filter is once they realize the app only makes you ghostly white. They then point out that an American app would probably focus on eyebrows and larger lips instead of eye size. Check it out below and tell us what you think.
