Fashion, Food, and Networking!
The Asian Professional Exchange (APEX) is hosting a Networking Mixer & Fashion Show on Wednesday, April 27th at the J Lounge in downtown Los Angeles, CA.
Established in 1993, the Asian Professional Exchange (APEX) is a non-profit community-based organization with a membership of over 10,000 professionals. Its mission is to provide support for the professional development, community service, and cultural awareness of Asian Pacific Americans in the Greater Los Angeles and Orange County regions.
“We wanted to create an event that served all of these goals but which would also bring together hundreds of Asian American young professionals together in a fun atmosphere to help raise money for APEX’s non-profit community projects,” said George Yin, the director for membership for APEX in Los Angeles.
At the event, APEX members and guests will nosh on complimentary appetizers and network. Four of the hottest Asian American fashion lines–Ai for Ai, Carol Chen, Line and Dot, and Stella and Jamie–will showcase fashions modeled by local Asian American pageant winners and actresses from East West Players. Asian American actors James Kyson Lee (Heroes) and Jelynn Rodriguez (The Drop) will emcee and special guest deejays DJ Orbit and DJ Mugen will spin music for the crowd.
What: APEX Networking Mixer & Fashion Show
When: Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 from 6:30pm to 10:00pm
Where: J. Lounge & Restaurant – 1119 W. Olive St. Downtown Los Angeles, CA 90015
The event is a fashion show hosted by a community activist organization–most members of APEX are not part of the fashion industry. Yin encourages young Asian American professionals to attend the event to expand their horizons. “We want to open doors for people professionally, but also want to open people’s minds to new possibilities in many arenas,” Yin said. “Asian Pacific Americans are rocking the world, and one of the areas where we are doing this is in fashion.”
Proceeds from the event will support APEX-sponsored non-profit activities, including the 17th Annual APEX Youth Olympics, a sporting event that will foster leadership skills in at-risk Asian American youth.
Interested in attending? Online pre-registration has ended, but tickets are also available at the door ($20 for APEX Premium members, $30 for non-members.) Dress in business casual, business, or cocktail attire (no athletic shoes or clothing!)
APEX is also looking for adult volunteers for the 17th Annual APEX Youth Olympics, which will be held at the East Los Angeles College Stadium on Saturday, May 14th, 2011. The APEX Youth Olympics will bring together at-risk Asian American teens to build friendships, confidence, and leadership skills.
