The U.S. Army officer who was rendered brain dead following a fight at a downtown Los Angeles nightclub, passed away earlier this week but not before giving new life for six people.
Albert Song, 24, a first lieutenant and West Point graduate, was a registered organ donor. Six patients in need received his organs, an unidentified friend told the Korea Daily Los Angeles.
“He was a good person until the very end and now he has gone to heaven,” the friend told the newspaper. The friend added that he hoped police would catch the perpetrator quickly.
Song had been trying to stop a fight between a friend and another patron at the Icon LA Ultra Lounge near the Staples Center around 1 a.m. early Sunday morning, according to the Korea Daily Los Angeles. The graduate of Whitney High School in Cerritos, Calif., was reportedly at the club with about a dozen others to celebrate a friend’s wedding. Police have not named any suspects but were reportedly reviewing CCTV footage from the night of the incident.
Song passed away on June 3. His relatives held a memorial service on June 5 at the family’s church, St. Thomas Korean Catholic Center in Anaheim, with about 150 people in attendance. Song was buried in a national cemetery in Point Loma near San Diego, according to the Korea Times Los Angeles.
