Pearl Ultralounge

Hawaii is notorious for being pricey, especially if you’re at Honolulu. However, Pearl Ultralounge provides a luxury ambience for a reasonable price during their famous happy hour. They have an extensive list of delicious “pupus” which are Hawaiian appetizers (yelp reviewers cant stop raving about their Beef Carpaccio and Ahi Poke), and on top of their menu there are live music, tropical cocktails, and dancing. It is also located at the Ala Moana Center, a famous high end outdoor mall, so you can get some shopping done before you head over. If you get there early you can even catch a free hula show, which takes place at the Ala Moana center stage daily at 1pm.

If you want to take a breather from the tourist crowd and give your wallet a break, take a hike down Makapuu Beach Park, located at the eastern most point in Hawaii. Once you hike down to the beach, you can explore caves and tide pools, try your hand at body surfing, or if conditions allow you can even go snorkeling! Dubbed as “Hawaii’s Natural Water Park,” Makapuu gives “a day at the beach” a whole new meaning with endless fun and adventurous activities. But make sure you take safety precautions, mother nature can be dangerous!

Hungry? Hawaii has tons of great eateries, but with generous portions at an affordable price, Mitsu-Ken is a must-visit. Mitsu-Ken is a local hotspot located in Kalihi known for the local-style comfort food. For $6.75, you can stuff yourself with their famous garlic chicken, or try their other bentos. The catch is that you have to get there early–the place closes at 1pm.
