Firefighters in South Korea rescued a 10-year-old boy trapped in a claw crane machine he climbed into after he failed to win a stuffed animal prize, according to the Kyunghyang Shinmun.
The elementary school student, on summer vacation, was home alone with both parents at work when he decided to play one of the ubiquitous streetside games near his home in the city of Hanam, a suburb located just east of Seoul.
After depositing 1,000 won and missing out on a prize, he crawled into the machine, which was a model slightly larger than normal.
At first, people couldn’t hear the boy’s cries for help behind the glass but one passerby eventually saw him trapped and called authorities. Firefighters arrived 20 minutes after the boy first became stuck and broke the machine open, freeing him.
