Chan Ho Park reported from Seoul early Monday morning that he has come to an agreement with the New York Yankees on a one-year $1.2 million deal. The contract also includes performance incentives that could potentially bump that figure up to $1.5 million.
It is believed that Park, who was 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA last year for the National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies, was hired to help fortify a strong Yankees bullpen, though versatility may lead to spot starts if the need arises.
Park, who turned down a $3.25 million offer to return to the Phillies earlier in the offseason, says he weighed offers from both the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees, but decided to join the Yankees due to their past tradition and championship contention.
Park’s new contract comes on the heels of Spring Training, with pitchers and catchers having already reported to the Yankees’ Spring Training facility in Tampa, Florida. Spring Training exhibitions are set to start early next week.
Do you think Park will do well pitching under the Yankee microscope? How do you think he will fit into the Yankees’ plan?
