Soon after Dia Frampton‘s memorable rendition of Kanye West’s “Heartless” on NBC’s The Voice Tuesday night, the twitter-sphere was abuzz about the 23-year-old singer’s talent.
Celebrity chef Rachael Ray tweeted: “Best moment/performance: VIVA DIA. There’s a new Frampton in town and she will Show You The Way.”
Judge and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine called her performance “the most refreshing, unique thing I’ve ever seen on [The Voice] so far.”
Fellow judge Cee Lo Green was equally amazed.
“That’s probably the greatest rendition of a song I’ve ever heard,” the singer said.
The half-Dutch, half-Korean singer got rid of the auto-tune from the original song, transforming it to fit her more acoustic style. Despite looking as though she could still be in her teens, with her awkward smile and spidery eyelashes reminiscent of Tim Burton illustrations, Dia’s voice was mature and smooth. Her voice was even a bit eerie during Tuesday’s episode, meshing perfectly with the ghostly fog rolling by her feet.
KoreAm readers may know Dia Frampton from the band, Meg and Dia, which we highlighted in the January 2008 issue. Their latest album, “Cocoon,” was released in April 2011.
