Check out this exclusive clip from Magnolia Pictures’ “The Lovers & The Despot,” a documentary about the 1970s North Korean kidnapping of South Korea’s top film couple by Ross Adam and Robert Cannan premiering this Friday in New York and Los Angeles!
The film is the stranger-than-fiction story of filmmaker Shin Sang-ok and actress Choi Eun-hee, taken separately in Hong Kong by North Koreans under Kim Jong-il’s orders and forced to create propaganda pics for the dictator for five years.
At the center of it all is the uneasy relationship formed between Kim and the couple, as well as Kim’s love for cinema. “Lovers” includes rare audio of Kim’s voice, from secretly recorded tapes by the couple.
“The Lovers & the Despot” will also be available Friday on OnDemand, Amazon Video and iTunes. Visit Magnolia Pictures for more information on the film.
