2013 has been quite the year for the Philippines in the pageant world. Megan Young was crowned Miss World 2013 and Mutya Datul was crowned Miss Supranational 2013. In fact, every new international beauty competition has seen a Filipina winning the title or placing in the top 5.
This year, Ariella Arida became third runner up for the Miss Universe crown. The Philippines has been consistently doing well in the Miss Universe Pageant. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon were all in the top 5 in the Miss Universe competition respectively.

The newest addition to this list is Annalie Forbes who recently became third runner up in the Miss Grand International Beauty Pageant in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the midst of all this good news for the Philippines, a strange rumor has begun to spread. According to The Adobo Chronicles, the Association of Beauty Pageant Franchise Holders (ABPFH) has disqualified the Philippines from international beauty pageants for the next two years claiming that Filipina candidates had an “enormous advantage” this year. According to The Adobo Chronicles, the ABPFH has decided “to give other countries the chance to win international beauty competitions.”
The crazy part? People have actually been believing this rumor and have been getting angry. Most of these individuals are unfamiliar with The Adobo Chronicles which is a compilation of faux news reports. In fact, the site literally says “Everything you read on this site is based on fact, except for the lies.” The site is similar to the American news satire organization, The Onion.

It would seem rather odd and unfair to ban the Philippines from all international pageants (or any for that matter) simply because they’ve been doing a good job. The “Association of Beauty Pageant Franchise Holders (ABPFH)” appears to be something potentially made up. Ultimately, this news would not make sense.
However, the power of the internet has taken over. The story has appeared on a number of other sites who seem unaware that The Adobo Chronicles is satire. This is followed by a number of angry readers who have fallen into the trap. Of course, we must applaud The Adobo Chronicles for stirring up such attention.
So let out a sigh of relief everyone– something this absurd couldn’t possibly be true.
