Looking for Sam Sung at the Apple store? You’re out of luck.
It’s been months since Sam Sung parted ways with Apple. We’re talking about former employee Sam Sung, that is.
Sung worked as a specialist at the Pacific Centre Apple Store location in Vancouver, British Columbia. He garnered a good deal of attention a couple of years ago when a customer noticed that his Apple business card curiously read, “Sam Sung Specialist.”
In case you hadn’t noticed, Sung shares the same name as Apple’s biggest tech rival, Samsung Electronics of South Korea. The two behemoths in the electronics industry are currently involved in a rather high-stake court battle over patent infringement in the U.S.
Fortunately, Sung is staying clear of the conflict. Quite the contrary, in an effort to raise money for charity while poking fun at his situation, Sung is currently auctioning off his former Apple business card on eBay, which has “no major folds, dents or scratches,” and is nicely framed alongside his old uniform and lanyard.
“With a view to raising money for a very deserving charity, I’m auctioning the only ‘Apple Sam Sung’ business card I have left,” wrote Sung on the eBay page. “I had a great time working for Apple and would recommend it to anyone. I hope my old business card will go to another fellow Apple enthusiast with a sense of humour and the desire to help raise some money for a good cause.”
Just yesterday, the bids were coming in at around $3,000, but the highest bid has skyrocketed to a staggering $80,200 as of Friday morning. (It’s unclear if that high bid was fake, and Sung is reportedly trying to sort out which bids are legitimate.) The former Apple employee won’t be profiting from a penny of the sale, with all of the proceeds (“minus eBay fees”) to be donated to Children’s Wish, BC & Yukon, a Canadian not-for-profit organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.
What a beautiful gesture. Sam Sung, you are the apple of our eye!
