Dec. 7, 12:04pm: Rescue efforts resumed today for Michelle Yu, 49, who went missing Saturday while hiking on Mt. Baldy in Southern California’s Angeles National Forest. The Korean American went for a day hike and never returned home, according to her roommate who reported her missing,
Friends said Yu, who belongs to a Korean hiking group that often climbs Mt. Baldy, was training for an upcoming endurance trek in South America. Members of the hiking group are helping with search efforts, which involves three teams of search-and-rescue volunteers and a sheriff’s helicopter.
Authorities worry Yu may have fallen and injured herself. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Arden Wiltshire told KTLA News that the hiker wasn’t dressed for the storm that hit the mountain with rain and snow Sunday night. The weather conditions also impeded search efforts, though authorities were more hopeful with the clear conditions today.
