More good news for Fresh Off The Boat, the Asian American family sitcom coming to ABC. Kourtney Kang, writer and executive producer of CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, has signed a two-year contract with 20th Century Fox TV, extending her previous three-year pact with the studio.
Under this deal, she will serve as co-executive producer for ABC’s FOTB, the comedy based on Eddie Huang’s memoir about growing up in suburban Florida with his Taiwanese immigrant parents.
Jonnie Davis, 20th TV’s President of Creative Affairs tells Variety that Kang is “a fantastic writer who effortlessly melds ‘big funny’ with ‘heart,’ and we all love her here.” Davis says FOTB has “incredible potential to be a big, breakout hit.”
For the series, Kang will be teaming up with Nahnatchka Khan (Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23), Jake Kasdan (New Girl) and Melvin Mar (Bad Teacher, Bad Teacher 2).
