Kourtney Kang was promoted to executive producer of hit sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” and inked a new two-year deal with 20th Century Fox Television, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Kang was a staff writer when the show began in 2005 and was later promoted to co-executive producer of the CBS comedy.
“We love Kourtney,” 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden told Deadline.com. “She has been invaluable to [co-creators] Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas] who rely on her heavily. She is very funny, great with stories and has become the heart and soul of the show.”
The Hollywood Reporter said that Kang has ideas for new shows which would include strong female leads.
“The thing that really interests me is making really strong female characters that everybody can relate to,” she told the trade publication.
“It used to be every year there would be one or two ‘girl shows,’ and it feels like now there’s a ton of them. It’s not looked down upon as a girl show anymore; it’s just a great show.”
Kang was born in Hawaii to a Korean father and an Irish mother. She later moved to Philadelphia and received a master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon.
