What’s your nickname?
People call me Matt, but I go by Matthew. I really hate that nickname, by the way.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Hawthorne, California. Home to about 20 Korean families or something.

As a kid, what were your favorite toys?
I was a Mattel toy tester as a kid and kept all my toys from when I was a kid in storage unit to give to my son. I was obsessed with Transformers and Legos. I still have all my Lego sets.

What are your hobbies?
I’ve been playing guitar for 18 years. I know archery, the boomerang, I write and I draw.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Night owl.

Who’s your favorite Korean celebrity?

I really thought Jun Ji-hyun was hot from My Sassy Girl and Il Mare.

Who’s your favorite Asian athlete?
I think Kim Yu-Na did an amazing job and will mostly likely continue to do so.

What’s your favorite YouTube video?
My son has me watch those K-pop music videos with him. Those are a trip.

What are your guilty pleasures?
I stopped coffee four months ago, but I recently had an ice mocha or two.

What’s your best trait? What’s your worst?
I pay attention to everything someone says, however I talk a lot and cut people off. But I really do pay more attention than they think.

Are you single or attached?
Single dad, and no I am not divorced. Remember those ads for protection on the side of the bus and billboards? Yes, they are true.

What’s your greatest accomplishment?
My son.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I plead the fifth.

Who inspires you?
My friends inspire me to do great things. I don’t have a lot of close friends, but when people believe in me, I can make some crazy things happen.

What’s the perfect age?
Any age you are aware of everything that’s going on. I think that happens at different break-through moments in your life. First was 16 for me, then 20, 26 and now. Each time I have a breakthrough, I kick out some new goals. It’s better to plan for things you can achieve in the short term that aggregate into your long term goals I’ve found.

What’s your greatest fear?
Waking up one day as a five year old and having to relive my life all over again without any warning.

What are three things you can’t live without?
Music, technology and my son (of course).
