Indonesian Girl Takes Food Blogging to A New Level

There is always that one person in your group of friends who, at meal times, just has to furiously snap pictures of whatever tasty plate has just been delivered to the table. Come on, you know what I’m talking about. They’ll stand or crouch sideways and basically disrupt the entire meal in an attempt to get the perfect picture – until the food is all soggy and cold.

OK, I’ll be the first to admit – most of the time that person is me. There are so many of us now though, that it’s actually become a thing. You can even follow Asians taking pictures of food on Tumblr here. It’s kind of a sickness, really, but we still do it anyway. No shame (sort of).

Indonesian Instagram user Melissa Hie, however, decided to take this whole concept even further. She created an Instagram under the name Girl Eat World and posted snapshots of our two favorite things – traveling and food. At each of the countries she visits, she buys an iconic food item from that country and takes a picture of it in front of a famous landmark. That, my friends, is some serious dedication to food p-rn. Bet I’m not looking as crazy anymore, am I?

According to the Huffington Post, Melissa gained 7,000 followers in just eight days with only 33 posts, and if you look at her pictures, it’s no surprise why. She’s been everywhere from Tokyo to London, and has eaten the most adorable Hello Kitty-shaped doughnuts, spring rolls, banh mis and Godiva strawberry chocolates. Oh, and Harry Potter fans, this one is for you – butterbeer, right in front of 4 Privet Dr.

On how she became inspired by this creative idea, she told Huffington Post, “I started posting these food pictures to my Facebook, where I received positive feedback from friends, so I took more. One of them kept pushing me to create a dedicated Instagram since he thinks other people will enjoy it as well, but I only finally got around to it after my Japan trip – about eight months after I started taking these pictures. And that’s how the Instagram was born!”
