James Wan to Direct ‘Aquaman’

If you read our Halloween piece on all the reasons why you should watch a James Wan film, then you already know we’re quite a fan of his scary movies. But as much as we liked Insidious and The Conjuring, we’re also excited that Wan has been exploring genres outside of horror, as seen with Furious 7.

And now, Warner Bros. has just released even more exciting news: James Wan is set to direct Aquaman! The superhero film, which is based on DC Entertainment comic book characters, is set to release in 2018. “We’ve been so lucky to have worked with James, first on New Line’s The Conjuring and now on their upcoming The Conjuring 2, and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate,” said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production for Warner Bros. Pictures. “The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us, and James’ span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.” According to the first official plot summary, the film will follow Aquaman, the King of the Seven Seas and the ruler of Atlantis, as he is caught in the middle of a feud between the surface world at the Atlanteans. The role of Aquaman will be played by Jason Mamoa, who is of Native Hawaiian descent. Mamoa has taken to social media to show his excitement in having Wan direct the film.

In fact, quite a number of people are already excited to see Mamoa and Wan team up.

“James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen, and Jason has a dynamic presence that commands your attention,” said the film’s producer Charles Roven. “Together, they will bring an undeniable vitality and energy to this character as he headlines his first feature film.”
