Calling all actors — Jon M. Chu and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s upcoming film “In the Heights” just launched a digital open casting call!
Warner Bros. is accepting audition tapes for the movie, based on the Tony Award-winning musical of the same name, through Nov. 7. Production is expected to begin in early summer 2019.
“We are doing a worldwide casting search,” Miranda said in a video urging talent to send their tapes. “I hope to see you uptown.”
Set in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood, the story follows a bodega owner, a college student, a taxi driver, a beauty salon worker and an old woman as they “aspire to better lives as gentrification begins to take hold, and a sweltering summer power blackout brings their personal life crises to a head.”
“Hamilton” star Anthony Ramos will star as the lead character. Chu, who just came off directing the box office-winning “Crazy Rich Asians,” joined the project earlier this year. “In the Heights” is slated for a June 26, 2020 release.
