It’s finally here!
We heard news of Revenge of the Green Dragons early in 2013 and now, finally, we get a glimpse into the highly-anticipated gangster action thriller set in New York in the 1980’s.
You can’t blame us for being excited. For starters the film is produced by Academy Award winning Martin Scorsese. If this is anything like his other crime drama, The Departed, then we have quite a lot to look forward to. And let’s not forget that this film, which brings Chinese American life to mainstream media, stars some of our most favorite fellows.
Inspired by a New Yorker article on the “Chinese American underworld,” the film focuses on two immigrant brothers Sonny (Justin Chon) and Steven (Kevin Wu, otherwise known as Kev Jumba) in pursuit of The (infamous) American Dream. The two find themselves joining the Chinatown gang “The Green Dragons.” Of course this leads to violence, crime, run-ins with the police and complicated love triangles. If that’s not enough to grab your attention, the film also stars Glee‘s Harry Shum Jr. who swaps his trademark letterman jacket for a gun and a suit.

The film will premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be released theatrically in October.
