A 7-year-old boy visiting San Diego from Korea is in critical condition today, after falling from a third-story hotel window, local news station CBS8 reported.
The fall was reported at about 6:20 p.m. on Thursday at the Clarion Del Mar Inn. The boy’s family told investigators he was left alone to play in the hotel room when the fall occurred, according to a statement by Sgt. Dustin Lopez of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Family members discovered he had fallen after checking in on him, Lopez said. The boy landed on the asphalt parking lot, a 30- to 35-feet fall, the report said.
“It is unknown if the window was previously open or opened by the child prior to the fall,” said Lopez.
The boy was airlifted to a local children’s hospital, where he was being treated for major head trauma and a broken femur, according to the report. The case is being investigated by the department’s child abuse unit.
