L.A.’s Fashion Weekend Kicks Off With A Huge Splash!

We already know Summer 2012 began months ago, but L.A. Fashion Weekend’s kickoff event made it feel as if the summer began Thursday, June 28 right at The Standard Hotel in Hollywood. Hair experts Wella Professionals presented Fashion Splash, an “intimate” swimsuit fashion show, right at The Standard’s pool. The runway served as a platform to three swimwear lines: Eclat Swimwear, Culture Swimwear, and Maui and Sons. While The Standard’s very L.A. decor of white leather sofas and palm tree leaves growing out of white marbles was the perfect backdrop for a swimsuit fashion show, it was the beautiful, tan guests; fruity cocktails; and the big, poolside umbrellas that made it feel like it was first day of summer.

As the attractive guests, all clad in summer friendly attire (picture a sea of brights and neon, and lots of luminous, glowing skin) mingled with either a delicious and refreshing cocktail in hand or sat at the Napoleon Perdis makeup stations to get a touch up or a makeover. Outside, where the spotless white runway stood, there were more gorgeous people posing for pictures and grabbing their seats. After two hours of basking in the L.A.’s evening sunset and warm summer breeze, Beverly Hills’ Eclat Swimwear set the fashion show in motion.

Eclat interpreted this summer with lots of metallic colored swimwear that reminded us of 80s gym wear. Models with mile long legs strutted up and down the runway in barely-there one pieces of shiny colored swimsuits. In addition to Eclat’s metallic and 80s theme, cut outs were also huge for the line. Culture Swimwear, however, quickly switched up the mood to a more lavish bohemian and tribal vibe. Tribal and Amazonian prints were key points to the line as its one-pieces and two-piece suits all had interesting prints, whether it was animal inspired or something more organic. The grayed shirring on the back of the one-piece suits truly made the entire collection stand out. It added a delicate, yet bold, luxurious feel to the entire collection. Maui and Sons wrapped up the show with a more California surfer girl/guy style. All Maui and Sons’ models wore sneakers and/or had on wayfarers to go with the surfer shorts, bright cutoff tanks, and/or bikini briefs. It was definitely a more casual line than the previous two as it channeled the infamous beach/surfing culture of the West Coast. Maui and Sons’ look on summer 2012 closed the event and sent off the guests California dreaming.
