This one is a week old but I’m sure Margaret Cho fans will enjoy it.
National Public Radio interviewed the Korean American comedienne in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The Notorious C.H.O. talks about growing up in San Francisco and about her father being deported to Korea when she was an infant.
Cho also touches on race and show business:
In San Francisco, it’s very racially mixed. I never felt different or like an outsider — not until I entered show business did I feel a real difference. It was strange to go from a very multicultural environment to a very monochromatic one. To be in show business is to feel a sense of invisibility, if you’re not white or if you’re not a man.
