Production has started for “Busted!”, Netflix’s first venture into South Korean variety shows. Pitched as an “unconventional” mystery-drama game show featuring some of South Korea’s biggest stars, “Busted!” is a collaboration project between the American streaming giant and Korean production company, SangSang.
Showrunners anticipate that the variety program will do well, especially in the hands of Netflix and SangSang, which previously produced variety shows such as “Running Man” and “Family Outing.” “Busted!” intends to catch attention by combining comedy with the suspense of the mystery genre and the star appeal of a celebrity cast.
Each episode will feature a “mystery of the day,” and cast members will have to solve the mystery without knowing each other’s roles.
Netflix has been actively pursuing original South Korean content lately, producing Netflix original K-dramas such as “Man to Man,” “Kingdom” and “Love Alarm.” Bong Joon-ho’s “Okja,” which premiered out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, was also financed by Netflix and is currently available to stream on the site.
“Busted!” is expected for global release in 2018.
