Netflix Renews ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ for Two More Seasons

A two-season renewal means Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is here to stay.

The show opened to a successful premiere on Feb. 22, with 41.1M views over the course of its first 11 days, Deadline reports. Newly-named Netflix’s film chief, Dan Lin executive produces the series under his company Rideback, and Albert Kim acts as showrunner.

With an anticipated Season 2 and 3, the live-action series will have to film quickly, in order to work around their child actors growing up too fast. A three-season run will be able to better reflect Nickelodeon’s animated series, and is set to continue following Aang on his Avatar journey. Additionally, as told to Deadline, executive producer and director Jabbar Raisani said that with extra seasons, cut scenes from season 1 will be worked on and expanded to better reflect the story the animated series set forth.

Season 1 saw Aang (Gordon Cormier) reawaken after the Fire Nation destruction of his Air Nomad community. With newfound friends and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), Aang fights against Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim) and his Crown Prince, Zuko (Dallas Liu), in an effort to save the world.
