The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards went smooth like “Butter” for API musicians.
On Sept. 12, Filipina American artist Olivia Rodrigo ruled the roost at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, pulling the Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and PUSH Performance of the Year Awards with her hit single, “drivers license.” The pop darling also took the VMA stage to belt her teen angst anthem “good 4 u” to massive crowds of cheering fans. Meanwhile, the world’s favorite boy band BTS received the Group of the Year and Best K-pop Awards. Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak also accepted the Best R&B Award for “Leave the Door Open,” the debut single from duo’s collaboration Silk Sonic.
