This article by Mary H.K. Choi describes in perfect detail the anxiety I feel whenever I go in for a pedicure. So much so, that I’ve pretty much avoided them in hopes of avoiding this kind of run-in.
That is, until today, when Groupon dropped one helluva deal into my inbox. Pedicure and paraffin dip AND booze for $24? It’s just not in me to turn away from a good deal. I perused the spa’s website – full of color, content and social media tools – and made a judgment call that it’s probably not run by a small army of Asian women.
So now I am wondering, does this Groupon purchase make me a hypocrite? Apparently I am OK with getting pedicures as long as it’s not from an Asian person. And then I feel bad because I want to give the small mom-and-pop operations my business, but I just can’t sit through another inquisition.
