Randall Park’s feature film directorial debut “Shortcomings” is officially getting a theatrical release date. And it’s sooner than you think.
Making its world premiere earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, “Shortcomings” is now on its way to theaters. The movie’s latest trailer showcases Justin H. Min (“BEEF”), Ally Maki (“Dealing with Dad”) and Sherry Cola (“Joyride”) as a trio of young Bay Area friends who navigate interpersonal relationships, while traversing the country in search of their ideal connection.
Adapted from Adrian Tomine’s graphic novel of the same name, the film follows Ben, a struggling filmmaker who lives with his girlfriend, Miko, who works for a local Asian American film festival. When Miko moves to New York for an internship, Ben is left to his own devices and reevaluates his life’s direction. With his best friend Alice, a queer graduate student with a knack of dating around, Ben dives into, or at least attempts to, discover what he truly desires.
The film’s trio is also joined by Jacob Batalon (“Reginald the Vampire”), Tavi Gevinson (“Gossip Girl”), Debby Ryan (“Insatiable”), Sonoya Mizuno (“House of the Dragon”) and Timothy Simons (“Candy”).
Alongside Park in the director’s chair, the film’s screenplay is written by the novel’s creator, Tomine, who also serves as an executive producer on the project.
With much anticipation surrounding Randall Park’s directorial debut, “Shortcomings” makes its theatrical debut in select theaters on August 4, 2023 this summer.
