A Korean American couple got married this past Saturday in Southern California. No biggie right?
Except for the fact that the groom, Samuel Kim, was stuck in the isolation ward of a hospital with a lung infection.
Here’s where the wonders of technology come in – instead of canceling the wedding, Kim and his fiance Helen Oh, decided to hold the wedding via Skype, the online video chatting system.
“Guests said it was inspirational, they really admired my fiance for being able to stand at the altar in the manner that she did, alone and not crying the whole time,” Kim told Reuters.
According to Reuters, the wedding had five live cameramen at the high-tech Korean church near UCI Medical Center, where Kim was watching from his laptop. Not only did the audience get to watch the wedding on a jumbo screen, the presentation included split-screen images that showed Kim in his hospital room, which was decorated with flowers that his nurses bought with their own money.
Kim, who expects to leave the hospital this week, surprised Oh with plane tickets to Europe for their honeymoon – here’s to their happily ever after!
