Sony Pictures Worldwide has acquired global distribution rights to teen slasher film Detention, co-written and directed by Joseph Kahn, according to a release.
“The pace, energy, and awesomeness Joseph Kahn has achieved in Detention is completely mind-blowing in the best way possible,” said Scott Shooman, Sony Pictures’ VP of acquisitions.
The film, which stars comedian Dane Cook and Josh Hutcherson, won the Youth Jury prize for best FutureWave Feature Film at the Seattle International Film Festival. Korean American rapper, Jonathan “Dumbfoundead” Park, has a supporting role in the film.
Kahn, a Korean American from Texas, is best known for being a director of music videos and last directed Torque, starring Ice Cube.
