If there’s one genre in which South Korean cinema reigns, it’s the revenge thriller — and the latest offering from director Choo Chang-min is led by two heavyweight actors, Jang Dong-gun and Ryu Seung-ryong.
“Seven Years of Night,” set to release in select North American cities on April 6, unfolds within a remote village. Ryu plays a man who, caught in thick fog one night, accidentally runs over a young girl and dumps her body into a lake. Her father, played by Jang, is the village’s major landlord and seeks revenge against the man who killed his daughter.
Ko Gyoung-pyo, Song Sae-byuk and Jeong Hee-moon also star.
The film is based on “Seven Years of Darkness,” a best-selling novel by Jeong You-jeong.

Choo is best known for the critically acclaimed 2012 period drama “Masquerade,” which topped the Korean box office that year.
Jang, a perennial heartthrob in South Korea, has appeared in both films and television dramas since the early 1990s, while Ryu is a popular film star whose credits include some of the country’s highest-grossing projects, including “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” and “Miracle in Cell No. 7.”
Update: “Seven Years of Night” will no longer premiere in Los Angeles on March 30.
