‘Squid Game’ Set to Return For 2 More Seasons

Squid Game” is back! Three years after the first season of the Korean television series premiered on Netflix,  the second installment of the show is set to premiere on Dec. 26.  The series will return to the demented, gruesome challenges that made the show an international sensation. 

The original installment, followed Lee Jung-jae’s character and his fellow contestants as they competed in a contest of child-like games for the chance to win a life-changing sum of money. The twist, the consequence of losing each game is death. The nine episodes had thrilling action and cliffhangers that got the whole world talking. 

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk returns as a writer, director and executive producer for seasons two and three. Hwang became the first Asian to win an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Lee Jung-jae also earned an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. 

 Lee Jung-jae reprises his role as Seong Gi-hun, who will return to the game to seek revenge and destroy the organization behind Squid Game. Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo will also return and are joined by new cast members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an. 

But today’s announcement wasn’t the only news for fans of the show. The third and final season of “Squid Game” was also announced to premiere in 2025, much shorter than the three-year wait between the first two seasons. Now’s the perfect time to dive back into the world of “Squid Game” and prepare for the twists and turns of the final two seasons.
