If there’s one thing our readers seem to love, it’s Studio Ghibli. We certainly don’t blame you. After all, this Japanese animation film studio– which was co-founded by the beloved Hayao Miyazaki– created 8 out of the 15 highest-grossing anime films ever made in Japan. This includes Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo and Princess Mononoke.
But in 2013, Studio Ghibli fans were deeply saddened after the Oscar-winning Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement, claiming The Wind Rises would be his last feature film. Thankfully, it seems Miyazaki has only given up feature length films because he is already working on an upcoming short for the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo
According to Variety, “The new ten-minute film, starring a hairy caterpillar, will be made in the CG format, a first for the director, and take an estimated three years to complete. Miyazaki did not say whether the film will be shown outside the museum.”
Don’t feel like waiting the estimated 3 years for the new Miyazaki short to be released? Well in the meantime, you can check out these adorable Studio Ghibli promotions for for Nisshin Seifun Foods.
