People who resell the latest iPhone can sometimes end up getting less than what the device is originally worth. However, if they sell enough of them, it may be enough to help them buy a house in China.
A woman from the city of Shenzhen in southern China asked her 20 boyfriends to each purchase her a new iPhone 7, before selling the 20 phones to make a down payment for a new house, the BBC reports.
The story originally appeared on blogging platform Tian Ya Yi Du, with the author of the story supposedly being the colleague of the worker. The author said that the woman is not from a wealthy family and that she has been thinking of buying a house.
As a way to make her desire into a reality, the woman asked her boyfriends for iPhones and then sold them to a mobile phone recycling site called Hui Shou Bao. A spokesperson for the site confirmed to BBC that a woman did in fact sell 20 iPhones to the Hui Shou Bao, and each phone sold for 6,000 Yuan, which is about $885. In total, she garnered 120,000 Yuan – about $17,703.
Soon after the story became noticed, the hashtag “20 mobiles for a house” quickly became viral in social media.
“I can’t even find one boyfriend,” one commenter said. “She can actually find 20 boyfriends at the same time and even get them to buy her an iPhone 7. Just want to ask her to teach me such skills.”
Due to her day-to-day life being affected from the local media attention, a Hui Shou Bao spokesperson told BBC, she declined an interview with the news outlet.
