If you’re a Vampire Diaries fan like I am, then you probably already know Chinese American actress Malese Jow who played Annabelle, the vampire-turned-ghost who was on a mission to reunite with her mother.
23-year-old Jow was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and began her acting career by starring in McDonald’s commercials. Her first big break was in 2003 when she landed a role in Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, where she starred opposite Emma Roberts. From there, Jow guest starred in other popular children’s shows such as Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and iCarly. It wasn’t until her recurring role as Annabelle in The Vampire Diaries that she began to take on more mature roles such as her appearance in Desperate Housewives as well as the infamous Facebook movie The Social Network.
Now, you can watch her bring a comic book character to life. In this week’s episode of The Flash, Jow made her debut as Linda Park, a reporter from Central City Picture News who becomes Barry Allen’s love interest.
Jow does such a great job with her character, audiences do not even need to be familiar with the comic book to like Linda. She resonates a confidence that is subtle enough to not appear cocky.
“She doesn’t beat around the bush, and when she knows what she wants, she goes after it, which we see in this episode when she goes up to Barry at the karaoke bar and gives him her number.” Jow told MTV in a recent interview. “She’s very independent. She’s the kind of woman who is definitely not waiting around for a guy to call her back.”
Wow. That strength and independence is definitely admirable. You go, girl! Check the scene below to see how Jow reels in a superhero:
