President Barack Obama nominated Reno lawyer Miranda Du yesterday to be a federal judge in Nevada, according to the White House.
Du, who immigrated to the United States from Vietnam as a 9-year-old refugee, would be the first Asian American federal judge in Nevada.
President Obama said in a statement that Du would be “an esteemed addition” for the people of Nevada.
Du practices law at McDonald Carano Wilson. She received a law degree from U.C. Berkeley’s Boalt School of Law in 1994 and earned dual undergraduate degrees in history and economics from U.C. Davis in 1991.
Du specializes in complex civil litigation and employment law and has experience working in federal and state courts, including the Nevada Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
If confirmed by the Senate, Du would replace U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt.
