Vivian Bang’s “White Rabbit,” a comedy detailing the struggles of a Korean American performance artist trying to make it in Los Angeles, will run on screens at the Laemmle Glendale Theater for one week starting Friday.
Bang co-wrote, co-produced and starred in the film, directed by Daryl Wein and produced under his Mister Lister Films. “White Rabbit” premiered at Sundance Film Festival as a part of its NEXT program in January.
The project was acquired in June by Gravitas Ventures, which will also release the film Friday on-demand on iTunes and Amazon.
Bang described her film, her first producing attempt, as an “existential comedy about the daily grind of being an artist in Los Angeles.” In it, she performs for strangers on the street, desperate to feel authentically heard, and makes it day-to-day doing small TaskRabbit jobs.
“‘White Rabbit’ was my response to absence in media to see people like me be the hero of their own stories,” she said. “I hope it speaks to all of us who struggle to take up space.”
She will be seen next in the Netflix rom-com “Always Be My Maybe,” starring Ali Wong and Randall Park.
