Is this a postmodern take on Yellowface or just making do with what you have?
Pornographic website Burning Angel is producing an X-rated parody of the popular zombie TV show “The Walking Dead,” and founder and actress Joanna Angel recently published pictures of the cast in makeup on her blog.
They’ve apparently chosen a Caucasian actor to play the Glenn role, which is played by Korean American actor Steven Yeun. Not only did they use a yellow-tinged foundation, but it also looks like they taped his eyes back to make them more slanted.
Should we even care since it’s porn? Like it or not, pornography often leads the vanguard of new technology like DVDs and the Internet due to its massive popularity. But does that apply here? Honestly, he looks more like Spock than Glenn.
Sensing a potential upheaval from politically correct porn aficionados, Angel attempts to nip it in the bud by telling readers to stop being so sensitive.
“Alright, I know some of you lame asses were offended by me turning someone non-Asian into someone Asian, but Danny is an important member of the BurningAngel family and I really wanted him in this movie – and he actually has a lot of similar features as Glenn and made the most sense to play him,” writes Angel. … I was not doing this to make fun of anyone of any race – I did this because it was a parody. So all you over-sensitive PC people: calm down.”
Apparently the porn parody business is booming, with a recent X-rated Star Wars parody made by industry giant Vivid Entertainment — the highest budgeted porn film of all time — becoming the best-selling DVD ever.
