Where’s the kimchi?
The White House released details surrounding the State Dinner welcoming South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on Thursday.
The political leader and guests will be dining in the East Room of the White House. Executive chef Cris Comerford has constructed a decidedly New American menu using local ingredients, including produce grown in the White House’s own garden.
The Early Fall Harvest Salad is the only Asian-inflected fare save for the dessert. “The daikon sheets and masago rice pearl crispies is a nod to Korean traditions, and includes greens from the White House Kitchen Garden,” according to the White House release.
Daikon? Sigh. It’s called mu!
Meanwhile, the delicious dessert “features a classic recipe of chocolate cake layered with a harmonious blend of Korean and American pears.”
Ah, that’s nice.
