White House to recognize climate equity leader Vien Truong

Green For All National Director Vien Truong will be one of 10 individuals recognized by the White House as a Champion of Change for Climate Equity this Friday.

The Champions of Change program was created to highlight individuals who are doing extraordinary things for their communities.

Truong joined Green For All, an organization whose goal is create a green economy while lifting people out of poverty, last year. The group’s work includes the Polluters Pay campaign, which called for polluters to “pay for what they break.”

Previously, she worked as environmental equity director for the Greenlining Institute, a public policy group with concerns for disadvantaged groups. She and her team created state programs and policies – including SB 535, which directs a quarter of California’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to disadvantaged communities – that directed billions to disenfranchised populations that which were highly susceptible to climate change.

Truong’s extensive work with these communities has already been recognized by many organizations – the San Francisco Chronicle named her one of the city’s “top women leaders,” and she was the recipient of the Transform 2015 Leadership, Innovation, Vision and Equity (LIVE) Award.
