The highly anticipated live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” premieres today, Thursday, Feb. 22, on Netflix. In the spirit of all things ATLA, we asked your favorite API celebrities what element they would bend – water, earth, fire, or air?
Answered on the red carpet of our 21st annual Unforgettable Gala, many celebs felt confident in their responses. Actress Lana Condor calls herself a true Fire Nation stan, as does director Jon M. Chu and producer/screenwriter Adi Shankar.
In direct opposition to the answer of water are Youtuber Steven Lim, actor Derek Luh, and actress Auli’i Cravalho, who allude to her famous role in “Moana” as her reasoning behind choosing the element.
The ATLA cast answered as a group, and mostly stayed true to their characters, with Kiawentiio and Ian Ousley repping water, Dallas Liu choosing fire and Gordon Gormier tying it all together with an answer of air. Elizabeth Yu, who plays the Fire Nation’s Azula, was the only one to choose an element outside of her character, stating water as what she’d most like to bend IRL.
Finally, celebrities that join Gormier as air benders include actress Sujata Day, comedian JR De Guzman and actor Tenzing Norgay Trainor.
