3 Accused of Running High-End Brothel in Irvine

by STEVE HAN

After a yearlong investigation, undercover police officers arrested three people accused of running a brothel out of an apartment in Irvine, Calif., the OC Weekly reported.

Authorities say Gin Woo Park, 41, and Heung Soon Kim, 56, both of Los Angeles, and Miyoun Kim, 56, of Newport Beach, leased a high-end apartment in Irvine where they “induced several female victims” to work as prostitutes between June 1, 2012 and Aug. 21 of this year.

Park and Heung Kim are each charged with two felony counts of human trafficking and 13 felony counts of pimping and pandering that could send them to prison for 40 years and eight months, if convicted. Miyoun Kim faces six felony counts of pimping, six felony counts of pandering, and if convicted, faces 12 years and eight months in prison.

The arrests were made last Thursday by the Irvine Police Department.  Julia Engen, spokesperson for the department, said that the “women involved in the prostitution activities were referred for appropriate care and services,” the OC Weekly reported.

The district attorney’s office is requesting bail to be set at $1 million for Park and Kim, and $250,000 for Miyoun Kim.
