7 Indulgent K-dramas To Binge On Netflix

Netflix’s store of Korean dramas is expanding, with more options being added each month and even a few originals among them. If you’re planning on spending a night (or an entire weekend) in and are looking for a show to binge, try one of these:

Descendants of the Sun

This intense drama about a suave soldier and a feisty doctor’s romance was the show to watch when it first aired in 2016. Lead actors Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo just announced their plans to get married, so now would be the perfect time to binge-watch the show that brought the lovebirds together in the first place! 16 episodes.

Secret Affair

Kim Hee-ae plays Oh Hye-won, a former pianist whose career was cut short by tendonitis, and who is stuck in a loveless marriage. She grows close to another pianist (Yoo Ah-in) who is young enough to be her son, but their love affair helps her rediscover her love of and the power of music. This award-winning 2014 drama will make you rethink what you know about love. 16 episodes.

Man to Man

The first Korean drama to be simulcast on Korean TV and on Netflix, “Man to Man” is about a celebrity, Woon-gwang (Park Sung-woong), who hires a mysterious bodyguard, Seol-woo (Park Hae-jin). Unbeknownst to Woon-gwang, his bodyguard is actually a secret agent with an agenda of his own. The series follows the two men’s bromance, as well as the relationship between Seol-woo and Woon-gwang’s pretty female manager (Kim Min-jung). 16 episodes.

Reply 1997

Starring a handful of K-pop idols like A Pink’s Eunji and Infinite’s Hoya, this charming K-drama follows the lives of six friends as they reminisce about their high school days at a reunion in 2012. As they look back on the year 1997, the friends remember past romances as well as the intense fan culture that popped up during the late ’90s. 16 episodes.

Also known as “The Day After We Broke Up,” this drama is about a band’s lead singer who relives the same day again and again until he can stop his girlfriend from being killed. Starring Infinite’s L, this bite-sized, Netflix-exclusive drama packs some serious emotional punch. 8 episodes.

Madame Antoine

She’s a psychic, and he’s a psychiatrist in the office above hers who is trying to discredit the idea that true love exists. One thing leads to another, and, as expected, they fall in love. Light, sweet and funny, “Madame Antoine” is a K-drama for the romantic cynic in all of us. 16 episodes.

Playful Kiss

A Korean remake of a Japanese classic, “Playful Kiss” is about the well-meaning but often unlucky Oh Ha-ni, who’s got the hots for the handsome, smart and popular Baek Seung-jo. The only problem is that hates her, which wouldn’t bother her too much except that they somehow end up living in the same house. Starring Jung So-min and Kim Hyun-joong (before his fall from grace), this sometimes-silly drama is simple and indulgent. 16 episodes.
