LA Asian Pacific American female lawyers to celebrate milestone

Join the celebration of a milestone achieved by Los Angeles Asian Pacific American women in law – 100 of them now partners in the city’s firms – inside Southwestern Law School on Sept. 16.

The public event is hosted by the Asian Pacific American Women Lawyers Alliance (APAWLA) and will feature guest speakers, food and a champagne toast.

Proceeds from which will go toward programs to benefit young APAs, said Emmanor Rigonan, a member of APAWLA’s planning committee. Those include scholarships and mentoring programs that pair together law students with attorneys and new attorneys with experienced ones.

“In general, women are underrepresented in the legal field,” Rigonan, a tax attorney herself, said. “APAWLA is geared toward empowering women. Through celebrations like this, we want to create a community. It’s all about engagement.”

The organization describes itself as devoted to “advocating, educating, mentoring, networking and developing leadership within the [law] professional and larger community.”

“Just to have an organization where you can deal with APA issues, and to have that guidance, to have that community, is really important,” Rigonan said.
