Forget that upcoming live-action adaptation of “Ghost In The Shell” — next month, you’ll be able to catch the original anime film in theaters.
Lionsgate and Funimation Films will return the sci-fi film, which gained cult status after its 1995 release, to 110 theaters on Feb. 7 and 8, according to Deadline.com. Then, in March, Lionsgate will release a deluxe Blue-ray and DVD collector’s edition of the film.
The limited showing will have options for both Japanese with subtitles or English dubbed.
Based on a manga series of the same name, “Ghost In The Shell” was directed by Mamoru Oshii and follows the story of a cyborg federal agent as she tracks an illegal hacker.
The live-action version, slated to hit theaters on March 31, is directed by Rupert Sanders and has faced criticism for whitewashing after its casting of Scarlett Johansson in the main role of Major Motoko Kusanagi.
