You took on the role of Aang at a young age. How has playing him shaped who you are now as a person?
Working from a pretty young age definitely changes a couple of things. It taught me how to wake up really early in the morning, learn lines, and honestly helped me with my dedication.
I feel like everybody needs something to dedicate their days to in order to keep them sane, and Avatar: The Last Airbender was my little dedication for the past five years.
Was it a big deal when you had to shave your head for the role?
Yeah, but not really. It is weird because when I was 11 or 12, when I booked the role, I had crazy hair. It was super long, I would get knots, and I was never really a big fan of my hair for some reason. It was always a pain waking up and brushing it.
So I was excited to see what being bald looked like. I was also 12, so what 12-year-old boy would not be excited to be bald? It is something your mom probably would not let you do.
And yes, I definitely shaved it. It was not a bald cap.
Aang carries a lot of responsibility while still trying to enjoy being a kid. Was that something you related to?
Yeah, a little bit. I did not really get to go to a lot of elementary school, and I was kind of just working, but I loved my job. It was awesome.
I could almost say that I enjoyed it more than elementary or high school. Now I am back in school and going into my senior year next year. I have been back for about a year, and I think I have only missed around four days because of Avatar. Absolutely no regrets. I have loved this show.
Was it difficult to come back to school, or was it pretty easy?
It was pretty easy, honestly. I had friends from school, and for the first two days it felt like the biggest thing ever. I was hiding in the hallways and squeezing around, but everybody kind of forgets within three days, and you just become a normal kid, which is awesome. I like it.
What is something you learned from your parents or family that continues to guide you as your career grows?
My dad teaches me a lot about humility. He is right there. He keeps me humble every single day, and I love him for that.

Can you think of your most memorable fan interaction or reaction?
There is not necessarily one big fan interaction, but whenever a little kid comes up to me, it always makes my day. You see their little smiles and their little faces, and you are just like, wow, life is dope.
Season two is premiering soon. What is the biggest change between the season one premiere and the season two premiere?
Honestly, height and voice drop. At the first season premiere, I think I was 14 years old, and my voice was definitely a little bit higher.
Not much has changed. I am still the same kid, just with a slightly deeper voice and a little bit taller.
What superpower from the show would be the most useful in real life?
Earthbending. Architecture. You could build houses, or if you are camping, you could build a little hut and sleep in the forest. That could be cool.
Who is the most gullible in the cast?
Me.
Who is the most competitive?
Miya.
